L’ex primo ministro italiano Silvio Berlusconi ha difeso Vladimir Putin in vista delle elezioni anticipate in Italia questa domenica, dicendo che il presidente russo voleva solo sostituire il governo di Volodymyr Zelenskyy con “persone decenti”.
In prima serata Rai1 In un’intervista, l’85enne leader di Forza Italia ha affermato che Putin “è stato spinto dalla popolazione russa, dal suo partito, dai suoi ministri a inventare questa operazione speciale”. Il piano, ha detto, era che le truppe russe entrassero “in una settimana per sostituire il governo di Zelenskyy con un governo di persone perbene”.
Tuttavia, ha aggiunto Berlusconi, “i russi hanno trovato una resistenza inaspettata e imprevedibile da parte delle truppe ucraine, che sono state poi alimentate con armi di ogni tipo”.
Berlusconi, amico di lunga data di Putin, ha lottato per rimanere sul punto quando si è trattato della guerra in Ucraina. Due mesi dopo l’invasione, nel aprile, ha detto di essere “deluso e rattristato” da Putin. Un mese dopo, lui disse che l’Europa dovrebbe “cercare di convincere gli ucraini ad accettare le richieste di Putin”.
L’influenza russa sulle politiche interne dell’Italia è stata un problema preoccupante per tutta la campagna elettorale in quanto una coalizione di destra, che include Forza Italia di Berlusconi, rischia di vincere un maggioranza dei seggi il 25 settembre.
